Did you know that only about 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions each year? And, only 75% of those who are setting goals will follow through with them after the first week of the year. It is crazy that 25% of people will stop working towards their goals after just the first week! BUT THAT IS NOT US. Let us make your New Year's resolutions and goals a reality!
Let us Get Started
You are going to have to STOP and take a time-out this week to think about what you want to achieve this year (life and business) and put a plan in action to level up. If you do not actually do this the days roll into weeks and months and before you know it the year is over! So let us put this plan in place to give you a focus that you can realistically work towards and not feel overwhelmed.
Before you start setting your goals, reflect on how last year went. When we look back on the previous year, we can see where we struggled and that helps us see where we need to focus our attention for the next year. And, if you look at what you were successful with that will help you with setting goals that you can realistically reach.
Think about the resolutions you have followed through with: goals you have met, the successes you have had, the struggles you have encountered, and more. Then, think about what you wish you could have done better and how you might be able to achieve those things this year.
Make Your Goals SMART
Once you have set your goals you need to make sure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and you have locked a timeline for achieving them). Then break them into what I call "micro-goals" and set a date to achieve them to hold you accountable and focused. When you put it onto paper it becomes an OFFICIAL goal and that is where the magic happens! Get super specific with your goal. Instead of "I am going to run a marathon," WHEN will you run a marathon? Where will you run it? Then setting small micro-goals for your distances on the calendar are crucial! And write it down in a notebook or fitness/lifestyle journal.
Take Action
Now it is time to TAKE ACTION and get amped! Putting a plan in place for staying on track and keeping track of your goals will tell you whether or not you will reach them by showing you what you need to do, if you are behind, and if you need to make a change. AND changing your goals is not giving up on them either. It is making sure that your goals are working for you.
Build Habits
One of the MOST IMPORTANT things you can do now is to focus on creating habits that will help you stick to your goals. If you are able to find ways to make your goals part of your daily routine you are going to dominate. Habits are very hard to break, and that is why they can help you achieve your goals. For example, if your goal is to lose 4 lbs of fat every month then make 45 minutes of exercise per day and food preparation part of your daily habits. If your goals and lifestyle are aligned it is going to be so much easier and enjoyable. Try to design your life around your goals so that you are not struggling and you come out on top.
Stay Excited and Motivated
It is also important to stay excited and motivated along the way. Consider creating a vision board and find ways to reward yourself as you are getting closer to your goal. One of my favorite things to do for this is to enjoy a day at the spa with a massage. Everyone loves a reward, and they might give you just a little more motivation to work towards your goals.
So get thinking about WHAT you want to achieve, make a plan and take action! YOU CAN achieve anything you set your mind to and create a plan to attack it! You have got this!
